ROUND 10 OF SHIELD COMPETITION AT NUNAWADING ON THIS SATURDAY
The tenth and final round of shield competition will be held at Nunawading, on this Saturday, January 30. This is the last round before the shield finals on February 6, so it is the last chance to qualify for events. Remember you cannot do an event in the finals that you have not competed in throughout the shield season (there is one exception to this; the 5000m in the round 10 will count to qualify athletes for the 3000m in the finals). So this week is a chance for you to do some new events and possible help your team to a premiership! In most divisions we are short of race walkers. So if you want to have a go at the walk you can earn a lot of points for your team. We also need hammer throwers and in some divisions triple jumpers as well.
The track program starts at 1:30pm with the walk and the 400m hurdles. The field events start at 1:00pm for the hammer and 1:30pm for the high and triple jumps and the shot put.
SHIELD FINAL ON FEBRUARY 6?
With one round of shield competition remaining before the shield final, all Box Hill teams look set to finish in the top two and qualify for the final on February 6.
I have attached the draft timetable for the finals day. If anyone is unavailable to compete on February 6, please let us know as soon as possible.
Remember that in the finals you must compete in the correct uniform (the old grey singlets will not be allowed) with black shorts and your AV bib number attached to both the front and back of your uniform.
Remember to compete for your team in the final you must have competed in at least three rounds of shield competition and have competed at least once in that particular event.
All athletes who have qualified for the finals should have received an email about the finals team in their age group. If you have not, please let me know.

CONGRATULATIONS DION
Congratulations to Dion Finocchiaro, who won the 56km Two Bays trail run on Sunday! This run from Dromana, over Arthur’s seat to Cape Schanck and return is one of the most popular ultramarathon events in Australia. Dion not only won, but ran a course record of 4 hours, 6 minutes and 36 seconds.

Men Open Division 1
In Division 1, we are second on the ladder. It has been a close three-way tussle this season between Nunawading, St. Kevin’s and Box Hill. We has a nearly full strength team in the last round and won but we need to make sure we continue to fill all the events including the jumps, walks and hurdles.
Men 40+
Our team in on top of the ladder and hopefully we can win the Association Premiership this year after going close several times in the past.
Men U18
We have a very strong under 18 team, with some outstanding athletes, but our numbers are a bit low, so we need all our under 18 boys competing to try to cover all the events. Currently the team in second on the ladder.
Men U16
Our under 16 boys are third on the ladder and will need some good results over the last three rounds in order to make the finals. Hopefully all our under 16 boys will take part in the last three rounds of shield.
Women Open Division 1
Our division 1 women’s team are on top of the ladder, but we need to make sure we get everyone qualified for the finals, where the competition will be very tough.
Women 40+
Our over 40 women’s team are on top of the ladder and hopefully can repeat the premiership win they had last year.
Women U18
The under 18 girls are on top of the ladder and hopefully can cover every event so that they have a good chance in the finals.
Women U16
The under 16 girls are also on top of the ladder and if we can find some athletes to do the hammer throw and the walk, they should be hard to beat in the finals.

In recent weeks some of the field events have filled up very quickly, so if you want to compete in any of the earlier field events, make sure you arrive early to check in!

SHIELD LADDERS AFTER 6 ROUNDS
