2014 – 2015 Summer Bulletin No 25

ATHLETICS ADVISORY GROUP

The Board of Athletics Victoria has approved the establishment of an Athletics Advisory Group (AAG).

The AAG will meet three times a year to consider, review and recommend future programs across a number of areas including:

(a) Athlete, club, coach and officials pathway

(b) All forms of competition products

(c) Programs to assist athletes, coaches, officials and club administrators and

(d) Effective forms of communications to our membership.

Athletics Victoria invite the membership to provide an expression of interest to be part of the inaugural AAG.  This is an independent consultative group that will help guide the future of the sport in Victoria.

If you would like to be considered please email your interest to: glen@athsvic.org.au

Expressions of interest will be open until 5.00pm Tuesday March 31 with the first meeting of the AAG Scheduled for Wednesday 15th April at 6.00pm at Cathy Freeman Room, Athletics House 31 Aughtie Drive , Lakeside.

The purpose of the AAG is to be representative of the entire AV membership and has been formed to provide an opportunity for members to be actively involved in our sport.

We feel that it is important that Box Hill has representation within this group.

If you are interested put in an expression of interest or contact the club to discuss the matter further.

XCR’15 COMING SOON!

The 2015 cross country and road racing season starts in just over 3 weeks. The first event will be the cross country relays at Jells Park on Saturday, April 18. Let’s hope that Box Hill can have another successful winter season.

To compete at Jells Park you must be registered for the new 2015/16 season. Registrations are now open for the new athletics year. Registration fees cover both the XCR winter season and next summer’s track season. The Box Hill Athletic Club committee have decided to absorb the increase in AV fees, so that registration fees for Box Hill members will remain the same as last year.

Register via the AV website member’s portal.

Contact the Club if you have any questions about registration.

CLUB 5K HANDICAP – Saturday, April 11

The Club’s annual 5k handicap race will be held at the usual venue, along the bike paths at Gardiner’s Creek in Box Hill South, on the morning of Saturday April 11. Meet at 9:00am for a 9:30 start. The run will be followed by brunch. This will be the launch of our winter season and we hope that as many members as possible will come along to race, run or jog the 5km course (or help out with timing and eating the brunch!).

If you plan to run please let us know as soon as possible. Also tell us you best recent time over 5000m (or 3000m or 1500m) and/or estimated 5k time so that a handicap can be calculated for you.
