BOX HILL WINS H. H. HUNTER SHIELD
Every year points are awarded to the top 8 placegetters in the Victorian Open Track and Field Championships and the club that scores the most points wins the H. H. Hunter Shield. After placing 2nd last year Box Hill has won this year by 2 points from Essendon. Congratulations to all the athletes who contributed to Box Hill’s victory.
5000m RACES AT MELBOURNE UNI
It was good to see the return of Andrew White to competition at Melbourne Uni last week. Andrew ran 14:57 in his first race in 15 months.
MILERS CLUB AT BOX HILL ON MARCH 21
The Milers Club will be adding the following races to Meet 5, to be held at Box Hill on Thursday 21st March:
800m – Elite Men’s and Women’s races?Top 10 male and female applicants to be selected based on performances since 1st October 2012. Indicative standards are sub 1:54 for men and sub 2:15 for women. Athletes will be advised by Monday 18th March if they are competing and be given an opportunity to enter the 1500m if they have missed out. These races will only take place if there are a minimum of 7 starters.
3000m Women only?A 10:20 qualifying standard (since 1st October 2012) will apply.
We will endeavour to have electronic timing for these events.
The proposed event schedule is:??1500m – slowest to fastest (7:00pm start time)
800m – Men’s and Women’s elite races
5000m – Men’s A race
3000m – Women’s elite race

BOX HILL FEATURE AT THE LEADER NEWSPAPER SPORTS AWARDS
Two Box Hill athletes won awards at the Leader Newspaper Sports Awards.
Sports Stars
At the 2012 Leader Newspaper Sports Awards Night on Tuesday 26 February two of our talented and promising junior members received recognition for their 2012 sporting achievements. Congratulations to Nana and Nathan!!!
Nana Owusu-Afriyie won the 2012 Junior Sports Star Award for the Whitehorse Leader; and Nathan Brill won the 2012 Junior Sports Star Award for the Mornington Peninsula Leader.
Both received specially struck medallions and $300 Sportsmart vouchers at the Gala Awards Night held at Etihad Stadium.
*If you know someone who should be nominated as a Sports Star of the Week please contact your local Leader Newspaper. All weekly winners, Junior and Senior, are eligible to be judged Sports Star of the Year. It would be great to see as many Box Hill AC members as possible nominated in 2013.
PRESENTATION NIGHT, FRIDAY, MAY 3
Mark this date in your calendar! The 2012/13 season Presentation Night will be held at the club rooms on Friday, May 3. This is a great opportunity to celebrate all of the achievements and successes of the past year.
SCHOOL BOOKING, TUESDAY MARCH 12
The track has been booked for a school use on Tuesday, March 12 between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. This booking is for field events only, so the track will still be available for training, but the pits and throwing areas will not be available for general use. Track users please be aware that there will be school children crossing the track to field event areas.
CROSS COUNTRY IS COMING!
With the track and field season coming towards its conclusion it is time for some to start planning for the upcoming winter season.
XCR’13, cross country and road racing season will kick off with the Jells Park cross country relays on April 27, followed by the Sandown Road relays on May 11. The AV season will be proceeded by the annual club 5k handicap race, which will be held on the usual course at Gardiners Creek on Saturday April 20. More details to come soon.
